The Institute works in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of children, young people and families before and after committing a crime and or becoming addicted to drugs. It runs a "Centre for solving crisis problems of young people and families" and a "Drug Centre". It also undertakes research, publishes materials, and mobilised surrounding communities for drug prevention. Where ? The project will be implemented in the Buddhamonthom Community. In the last two years, young people in the community started using amphetamines, but at the moment the biggest problem appears to be the use of solvents. The number of boys starting at the age of 12 ; using drugs is higher than the number of girls starting at the age of 15 ; . The activities of the Institute under the Global Initiative The project will organise leadership training, a summer camp and a series of alternative activities in sports and arts with the young people of the community. It will also organise a counselling and group support for parents and families and a series of discussions and awareness raising activities in which all the community will participate. Example, by sexual deviance within the profession, with 30 British psychiatrists struck from the medical registry or receiving criminal convictions between 1990 and 2003. In one notable case, psychiatrist Paul Bridges-- investigated by CCHR in the 1980s for conducting unethical psychosurgeries--was arrested along with 14 others after the Metropolitan Police's Paedophile Unit uncovered a paedophile ring. Bridges was found guilty in August 2000 after admitting he had indecently assaulted two boys and had taken lewd photographs of the youngest child. NORWAY In Norway, members of CCHR exposed one of that nation's most notorious hidden scandals: between 3, 000 and 4, 000 people admitted to Gaustad psychiatric facility between 1945 and 1970 had been brutally lobotomised. Psychosurgeons had destroyed healthy brain tissue, sawing open skulls and cutting into prefrontal lobes with long needles. CCHR's findings spurred the formation of an investigative committee, headed by a Supreme Court judge, and through the collaborative efforts of patients' rights activist Mary Lehne and others, the country's 500 lobotomy survivors were awarded government compensation for the abuses they suffered. Europe is, however, only the tip of the psychiatric iceberg. Exposing the mental health industry's "betrayal in the name of help" in countries throughout the world remains the primary mission and duty of all CCHR chapters.

The extent of methamphetamine abuse varies greatly across CEWG areas. Methamphetamine abuse indicators continue to be high in Honolulu, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle. "Eastern CEWG areas other than Atlanta continue to report very low indicators of methamphetamine abuse, but some eastern area CEWG representatives reported recent increases in methamphetamine labs instate and, although the numbers remain small, increases were observed in methamphetamine treatment admissions in some CEWG metropolitan and outlying non-metropolitan areas." While methamphetamine continues to be more prevalent in rural areas, there are clear indications of the availability and abuse of methamphetamine in some suburban and urban areas as well. In Atlanta, "methamphetamine is an increasing threat in the suburban areas because of the drug's low price and ease of availability; as a consequence, it is replacing some traditional drugs as a less expensive, more potent alternative." Methamphetamine use among gay males was reported in several CEWG areas, including New York; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; and Miami, "raising concern that the combination of methamphetamine use and associated sexual behaviors may increase risk for HIV transmission." Source: jointogether Meth Ingredients Banned from eBay Drugs containing pseudoephedrine and other substances that could be used to make methamphetamine have been banned from sale on the Internet auction site eBay, the Oregonian reported Sept. 30. Company officials said the move came as states have passed various laws to control spread of methamphetamine precursor chemicals. "It became really not possible for us to make sure people were not inadvertently breaking the law by selling in one state where it's legal to a state where it's not legal anymore, " said eBay spokesperson Hani Durzy. Durzy said that eBay had not seen large numbers of suspicious chemical sales, but drug-enforcement officials said that Internet auctions were becoming more popular with methamphetamine makers. "Anything that keeps precursors out of the hands of those who want to turn them into meth is a good thing, " said Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Bill Grante. Some recent auctions on eBay included a lot of 1, 000 30-milligram tablets of pseudoephedrine. The DEA has been working with eBay for the past six months to control such sales. A number of states have recently passed laws requiring that retailers pull drugs containing pseudoephedrine and ephedrine from store shelves and only sell them from behind pharmacy counters. Medical expenses were obtained on a subgroup of 237 patients, and regression models were created to attribute these expenses to the rest of the patients. Charges were converted to 1997 costs using standard methods, and costs and life-years were discounted at 3% per year. At 3 years, total costs were $71, 421 for a patient taking AADs and $85, 522 for a patient using an ICD. ICD provided a 0.21-year survival benefit over AAD therapy. The base-case C E ratio was $66, 677 per year of life saved by the ICD compared with AADs 95% confidence interval, $30, 761 to $154, 768 ; . Six- and 20year confidence interval ratios remained stable between $68, 000 and $80, 000 per year of life saved. There were 942 hospitalizations among patients treated with AADs and 978 among those randomized to ICDs. Inpatient care represents the largest expense in the follow-up of these patients, making up between 73% AAD branch ; and 84% ICD branch ; of total costs. The cost to save 1 year of life with the ICD compared with treatment with AADs is moderately expensive, $66, 677 per life year, but is still equal or less than the annual cost of hemodialysis [73] and avandia.

Effects of amphetxmine and fasting on muscle The quantitative data on muscle fibers speak in favor of muscle wasting, as substantiated by marked muscle atrophy in both experimental groups. A muscle fiber atrophy of about 25% is reflected by a loss of body weight of about 15%. The total muscle mass, however, should be reduced less, taking into account the observed augmentation of interstitial connective tissue. Hence, food restriction does not only lead to a loss in muscle mass, but also to some substitution of functional muscle tissue by connective tissue. It therefore has to be emphasized that food restriction severely affects skeletal muscle and not exclusively adipose tissue as desired by individuals fasting excessively. Central nuclei as found more frequently in the muscle fibers of both experimental groups although without significant difference to controls ; are a typical sign of necrosis and regeneration [21]. Qualitative electron microscopy supported this concept of degeneration and regeneration, and such was observed to a comparable extent in both experimental groups. Some of the structural characteristics can be attributed to degeneration, like a scalloped sarcolemma as a typical sign of breakdown of the cytoskeletal filaments in fibers undergoing atrophy [1] and the presence of polymorphonuclear cells acting as scavengers of cell debris [5]. The presence of residual bodies as remnants of lysosomes indicates an autophagic process [23]. The fact, however, that only residual bodies have been encountered and no active" lysosomes were found should suggest that the muscle fibers were already recovering and most of the degeneration had been taken place earlier. Several signs of an increased protein synthesis and of regeneration support this suggestion, like the presence of activated satellite cells and fusing myoblasts that eventually will form new muscle fibers. Such regeneration was also described in other types of atrophy [1] and in regenerating denervated muscles [21]. The apparent dominance of regenerative processes, although taking place in an atrophied and structurally affected muscle, speaks in favor of immediate recovery from food restriction that in fact has not been present anymore during the last days of the experimental period. Although the quantitative data and structural findings showed virtually the same result in both, the AMPH and FRES groups at the end of the experimental period suggesting the same etiology based on a reduced food intake, it can be assumed that the time course of the pathopysiological processes may be different. Ukraine joins Clinton Initiative to expand treatment and care Ukraine has joined the Clinton HIV AIDS Initiative Procurement Consortium, a move that will let the country purchase ARVs and diagnostics at the lowest prices in the world and so scale up its national care and treatment programme. Ukraine has the highest incidence of HIV AIDS of all Eastern European countries; about 1% of the population of 48 million is HIV-positive. Elena Franchuk, the founder of Ukraine's ANTI-AIDS Foundation, said: "The high cost of ARV's is the main obstacle to expanding national prevention and treatment programmes for people living with HIV AIDS. According to Ministry of Health data, at least 4000 people currently need treatment." The prices for ARVs negotiated by the Clinton HIV AIDS Initiative are between a third and a half of the next lowest prices; training, reagents and maintenance and are up to 80% cheaper than otherwise available. More than 20 countries purchase drugs or diagnostics at the Clinton Initiative reduced prices. Volodymyr Zhovtyak, the Head of the Coordinating Council of All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH said: "The All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH, of course, welcomes Ukraine's joining the Clinton HIV AIDS Initiative Procurement Consortium because any opportunity to procure cheaper ARV drugs and diagnostics for Ukraine is vitally necessary.

Amine 2.5 g 0.5 l side ; . Animals were then administered the formalin test for tonic pain. Intra-NAS raclopride prevented analgesia induced by intra-VTA DiMe-C7, intra-VTA morphine and intra-NAS amphetamine. Similarly, intra-NAS flupenthixol or SCH 23390 attenuated the analgesia induced by intra-VTA DiMe-C7. These findings suggest that tonic pain is inhibited, at least in part, by enhanced DA released from terminals of mesolimbic neurons. Furthermore, the evidence that SP and opioids in the VTA mediate stress-induced analgesia suggests that the pain-suppression system involving the activation of mesolimbic DA neurons is naturally triggered by exposure to stress, pain or both.
